Pace the States

Walking is one of the easiest forms or exercise and a great way to stay healthy and fit. Little or no special equipment is required and you don't need to carve a lot of time out of your day to enjoy it's benefits.

10,000 steps per day is currently recommended for a healthy individual. Americans average 5,000. Where do BPL employees stand, or step? Compliments of Hendricks Regional Health we all have a way to find out. Everyone should have a pedometer in their mailbox. With this measuring tool we can see if we are walking more or less than we think we are on a daily basis.

To make things a little more interesting than just counting our steps we'll use our numbers to Pace the States. Over the next 8 weeks we'll tour Texas, amble Alabama, meander Michigan and of course pace Pennsylvania. We'll start with Nevada and move randomly about the country. Just give your step count to me and I'll keep track of our group progress on the BPL Fit Club whiteboard. You can send me your steps via email, a note in my mail box, a shout-out as you walk by the Circulation Desk. No names are needed as this is a group effort and individual progress will not be tracked.

There are two informational flyers posted to the Intranet in the BPL Fit Club folder of the Documents section. One covers the use of a pedometer and the other is a step conversion chart for various activities. If you're out for a bike ride or raking leaves you can convert those activities to steps and help us move about the country.

Lastly, if your interested in stepping around Crown Hill Cemetery take a minute to mark which days would be good for you in the poll located in the right side bar of this blog.

Lastly, lastly, please let me know if you have any questions or comments about Pace the States.

Laurie
