Weekend Slackers?

This past weekend, Josh and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary. Since my parents had sent us some moolah, we decided to splurge and go to The Melting Pot. Oh boy, that cheese and chocolate fondue was tasty!

But that's my problem. During the week, I find that I can stick to a fairly good routine. I am able to show some restraint with breakfast and lunch, and our dinners are usually pretty healthful. On the weekends, though, I tend to slack. I think it has to do with "thinking ahead," or lack thereof.

What do you do to keep yourself on track during weekends or "special occasions" - family get-togethers and so forth?

(Also, when will we know our teams and to whom should we be reporting our weight lost each week? Inquiring minds want to know!)

Keep up the good work, everyone!
Emily

I find a "Food Diary" very helpful. You write down everything that you've consumed (food and drink!) for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I've done this a couple of times with variations of the columns to count: Calories, Fat, Protein, etc.

With just about every item you buy in the store, the Nutritional Information is all on the product per serving. To supplement (such as eating out), I bought The Fat Book, to help me figure out what's in what food (since I was trying to cut down the amount of fat I was consuming). This book also has a listing of the fast food restaurants.

This surely helped me!

I agree with Alison, writing down what we eat is helpful to knowing how much we actually eat. When I get in the habit of using my "food diary" it's much easier to pass something by - even during the weekend. Of course nothing seems to help much with those special events other than keeping them to a minimum.

Well for special events, you usually have to bring your own dish and your own settings. If you bring a healthier dish that you thoroughly enjoy, you can kind of pile up on that and not take as much of the other goodies. Also, since you're taking your own settings, you could just take a smaller plate. Now, that wouldn't stop you from having seconds but it may help deter it! ;)
Weekends were always my worst time too...even doing WeightWatchers when I was writing things down. I still couldn't keep it as contained on the weekends as I should have.

Weekends and family gatherings are definitely going to be tough. Devin and I decided that since I'm going to be roughing it and leaving him to fend for himself all week, that Sunday's I will allow myself a small, but delicious treat! :) This way, you have something to look forward to and it will lessen the opportunity for cheating. As far as family gatherings go, I know that my family ALWAYS has a fruit and veggie tray out. From now on I'll most likely skip the dessert's and load up on fruits and veggie's. Do me a favor and remind me of this come Thanksgiving & Easter time ok guys! :)
